BAC appoints a new administrator

NEWS: BAC appoints a new administrator

The Burnie Athletic Club has appointed former award-winning North-West journalist and experienced communications,  engagement and stakeholder relations consultant Nigel Tapp as its new administrator.

Mr Tapp assumed the role on July 1 replacing Mark Smith, who served in the position for more than six years and will remain involved with the club.

Acting president Steve Arnol said the club was delighted to have Mr Tapp joins the organisation.

“Nigel has had a long association with sport on the North-West primarily as a journalist, editor of the NWFL program for almost two decades and as a Cricket North-West umpire,” Mr Arnol said.

“He has also covered many North-West carnivals and Burnie Ten events during his time as a journalist with The Advocate.

“Nigel has also developed and implemented successful communications and engagement strategies for a range of Tasmanian and national organisations and companies across the corporate, not-for-profit and government sectors.

“The club is confident that Nigel’s broad experience will greatly assist the BAC as it seeks to redefine its direction into the future.”

“At our annual general meeting, next month, the BAC will seek to establish a new Board of Directors to oversee the club’s operational event committees.”

Mr Arnol also thanked Mr Smith for his work in the role.

“I am delighted that Mark is remaining with the organisation and will help Nigel settle into the role,” he said.

“Mark has done a mountain of work to support the BAC over many years and he is to be commended and thanked for all his efforts.”

Mr Tapp said he was excited to be involved with the club .

“The BAC has a history which pre-dates the Modern Olympics, which should be a source of great pride for the membership,” he said.

“Over recent years it has also extended its involvement from a New Year’s Day sporting carnival to now also include the Burnie Ten and Burnie 321Go Kids Race.

“I look forward to assisting the club to continue to play an integral role in the region’s sporting landscape and to, possibly, increase its events profile in the future.”

Mr Arnol said anyone interested in nominating for the position of director could obtain a Position Description by emailing markcs1955@gmail.com

Nominations can be forwarded to the above email address or by post to P.O. Box 231 Burnie Tas 7320. Nominations will close on Friday, July 26.
