Burnie NYE Carnival
The Burnie Carnival is part of the Tasmanian Carnival Series held annually in December and January.The inaugural Burnie Gift took place on New Year’s Day in 1887, marking a historic moment in athletics. To put this into perspective, the event was held nine years before the first Modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. Since 1887, the annual Burnie Carnival has seen the Burnie Gift run and won almost every year, traditionally on New Year’s Day, with only two exceptions in 1942 and 1943 during the peak of the Second World War. In 2019, the Carnival was held on New Year’s Eve for the first time and has continued to be held on December 31 ever since.

Venue Info
West Park is the home of the Burnie Athletic Club, City of Burnie Cycling Club, Burnie Dockers Football Club and the Burnie Hurricanes Cricket Club. It has a capacity of 12,000 and is owned and operated by Burnie City Council.
